I had no idea that Becoming by Michelle Obama had so many juicy nuggets about career passion and fulfillment. In today’s episode I share 4 lessons I took away from this beautifully written memoir, as well as some questions to think about as you pursue work that you love! Lesson #1 – Check in with yourself regularly, or you may headed for career burnout

  • Check in with yourself – in what ways is your career causing you physical and or emotional stress? Write them down.
  • Ask yourself if your tasks/duties at work are energizing you or draining you and think about in a perfect world…what would make me excited?

Lesson #2Figure out what drives you to succeed in your career and make sure it is sustainable.

  • Driven by money? Security? Recognition? Service? Status? Toys ie: neighborhood, car etc.
  • No right or wrong, but do you like your reason?

  • Is your desire to achieve based on a true calling or self doubt and insecurity?
  • Have you ever really stopped to identify what your true gifts are and how you can nurture those…even if you decide to stay in your current role?

  • Who are you trying to impress or gain buy in from and do you even like and respect those people?
